Right after the staggering box-office success of Hindi Medium (2017), the makers had announced that there would be a sequel to the comedy drama. While Irrfan Khan’s return as the male lead was confirmed, no announcement was made pertaining to the film’s leading lady. For months now, there have been speculations surrounding the same.
The latest report in Mid-Day might just put them to rest though. According to the tabloid, Kareena Kapoor Khan will join Irrfan in Hindi Medium 2. The actress, the report claims, will be seen playing a cop in the Homi Adajania directorial.
A source in the report has been quoted as saying, “While the film kicks off in April, Kareena will join the unit only by May-end during the London schedule. She will be seen as a cop in the satire. While she loved the script, Kareena was just as excited to play a police officer for the first time in her 19-year-long career. She intends to wrap up the sequel by November, in time to begin shooting for Karan Johar’s period drama Takht.”
While the claim has not been corroborated by either Adajania or producer Dinesh Vijan, there is high possibility of it being true, more so because it has not been denied by Kareena.
Hindi Medium 2 would be Irrfan’s first project after he was diagnosed with a rare disease called Neuroendocrine Tumor in March last year. The actor was in London for a very long time for treatment. It was earlier this month that he was spotted in India for the first time in the last eight months. At the Mumbai Airport, he was seen trying to hide his face from the shutterbugs. His photos had gone viral on social media.
For those not in the know, Irrfan was supposed to start shooting for Shoojit Sircar’s Udham Singh in January this year. However, apparently due to his ill health, the actor failed to turn up. Vicky Kaushal was roped in to fill his post.
